Rapid Recap
St. Joseph's Brooklyn celebrated their Senior Day Saturday afternoon and also honored Casey Love, Lauren Petrie, Shannon Phelan, Lizzy Lofaro, Kate Hughes, Ciarra Quinn, and Erin Lofaro, the seven members of Mount Saint Mary graduating this year. The Knights looked to not only continue their 6-game win streak but also looked to improve their play after struggling in their close victory over Yeshiva on Wednesday. They did not get off to the best start, with the Bears jumping out to a 10-6 lead. Erin Lofaro sparked a 10-2 run with a three-pointer as the Mount took a 16-12 lead with 2:22 left in the first quarter. Entering the second quarter, the Knights led 16-14, but Brooklyn would take the lead right back early on. Mount Saint Mary would start to get into a rhythm with a 15-3 run that saw five different players score. The Knights attack their opponents with a perfect dose of team basketball and they did such this game against Brooklyn as they were up 34-24 at the half.

Being one of the best rebounding teams in the country, Mount Saint Mary out-rebounds their opponents by an average of 11.7 rebounds per game (t-9th in the nation) and they relied on their ability to do so against Brooklyn. They out-rebounded the Bears 50-24, allowing them to win the second chance points battle 22-4. The Knights scored the first 7 points of the quarter, with the first two made baskets coming from Maggie Trinkaus. Each team traded buckets, but Mount Saint Mary's firepower was just too much. An 11-player rotation who can all spread the floor and play man-to-man defense gives Head Coach Marion Dietz a lot of options and the ability to keep everyone fresh. The Knights led by as much as 21 in the quarter as the leading scorer on the afternoon Brianna Guglielmo entered double-digit scoring. Mount Saint Mary continued to dominate into the 4th quarter, with Shannon Phelan and Ciarra Quinn knocking down back-to-back three-pointers. Kate Hughes also started to get going, scoring 6 of her 8 points in the quarter. The Knights would eventually defeat the Bears 79-50.
