Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary was out for blood from the get-go, not only because of their overtime loss to Merchant Marine in their previous game but also because of the way things ended in their first meeting with the Valiants. The Knights lost on a half-court buzzer-beater and did not forget that coming into this one. Both teams were sloppy to start, but Brianna Guglielmo got the Mount settled in with an and-one layup. An 8-0 run, sparked by Maggie Trinkaus, gave the Knights an 11-3 lead midway through the first quarter. Trinakus had arguably her best game of the season in the most important game of the season for Mount Saint Mary. She scored a season-high 21 points and dished out a season-best 5 assists, to go along with 11 rebounds. Coach Marion Dietz tightened up her rotation in this heavyweight battle, as multiple players notched career-highs this game. Lauren Petrie, who was the only Knight to make a three-pointer, scored a career-high 18 points as she knocked down a three at the end of the quarter to put the Mount up 16-10. The second quarter was all Mount Saint Mary as Petrie got the Knights started with her second of four straight three-point makes to tie her career-high in three-pointers in a single game. The team only allowed 4 points this quarter with their elite defense leading to great offense orchestrated by Angelina Donato and Brianna Guglielmo. Both Donato and Guglielmo recorded career-highs in assists this game with Donato dishing out 9 assists and Guglielmo 6. The Knights would hold a commanding 40-14. Lead heading into the half.

Maggie Trinkaus and Lauren Petrie got the first two buckets of the half to give the Mount their largest lead of the game at 31. The third quarter was much more even on the score sheet, though the Knights still continued to play their brand of basketball. Kate Hughes has been featured more and more as the season rolls on as she got the start today and scored 12 points on 6-9 shooting in 26 minutes. Mount Saint Mary still held a solid 53-32 lead with just the fourth quarter left. Angelina Donato was aggressive in attacking the paint this game, recording a career-high 7 made free throws. The Knights controlled the glass, winning the rebounding battle 41-31 over Manhattanville. The Mount held any sort of comeback from the Valiants at bay, keeping their lead to at least 19 during the second half. Mount Saint Mary would eventually beat Manhattanville by the final score of 72-45.
