Troy, N.Y. — The Knights Track and Field team powered through the elements at the RPI Under The Lights Invitational yesterday, persevering through rain delays all afternoon. The meet had strong showings from both men and women, as they continue their outdoor season.
Maria Baldwin (Patchogue, N.Y.) racked up another record for herself, this time in the outdoor 200m dash with a time of 27.77—the record had previously stood for nearly12 years at 28.02. This record-breaking run earned Baldwin a scoring seventh place finish.
Lily O'Brien (Hauppauge, N.Y.) also had strong performances, placing seventh in the 400m hurdles (1:16.77) and ninth in the 100m hurdles at 19.26.
Emily Schneider (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) earned points in hammer throw, placing seventh at 36.45m. Lindsey Medina (Newburgh, N.Y.) was also strong in the event, placing 10th at 32.71m.
Sarah Kannenberg (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) represented in mid-distance, placing 19th in the 800m run with a time of 2:54.67.
For the men's team, Christopher Christiano (Waterbury, Conn.) ran to ninth in the 800m race, with a time of 2:04.17, followed by Joseph Carmona (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) in 35th (2:25.92).
Kyan Muendell (Yorktown Heights, NY) had a dominant performance in the javelin throw, sending it out to 37.68m for sixth place.
In sprints, Michael Gillespie (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) ran to 33rd in the 200m (24.32), just ahead of Ramasoj Williams in 34th (24.42).
The Mount's mixed 4x400m team of Christiano, Gilespie, Baldwin and O'Brien took home eighth place with a time of 4:06.32.
Looking ahead, the Knights will head up to Albany, N.Y. for the Bobbi Palma Spring Classic on April 19.
