Newburgh, NY- The Spring semester is off and running for Esports, with Smash, League, and Rocket League looking to improve on a great first semester of competition under the MSMC Esports banner.
The Smash team started their crews season against a familiar foe, Saint Joseph's- Long Island. Last semester's match was a nail biter, with
Erik Albanese clutching out a victory in last game/last stock and winning the series 2-1. While the result remained the same, The Mount took the series in convincing fashion this time around.
Axel Hernandez continued his impressive development as a player, starting the series by taking 5 stocks off the Golden Eagles game 1 with Bowser.
Bob Houk stepped into the starting lineup for crews for the first time, and was able to grab another 3 stocks off of SJLI with his Jigglypuff expertise, leaving only 1 stock for team captain
Erik Albanese to take before jumping out to a series lead, which he did with ease. Game 2 was a story all too many schools have faced when coming up against The Mount, as Erik took 6 stocks while only dropping 1.
The singles bracket is also underway for Smash! The team is working hard to have a representative in the Final 4 for a 3rd straight semester (hopefully more than 1!). Each member of the Smash team will have 9 matches in the group stage, followed by the postseason. After 2 weeks, the teams records are as follows;
Erik Albanese (2-0),
Axel Hernandez (2-0),
Bob Houk (0-2),
Parker Giudice (0-2), Austen Torres (0-2).
Rocket League kicked off their ECC season with a matchup against the first of two teams from Roberts Wesleyan University they will play this semester. The Knights were in all 3 games, only trailing by one goal with 2 minutes to go every game, but their late pushes came up short, and the Redhawks of Robert Wesleyan took the series 3-0.
Bob Houk got on the scoresheet twice, and
Ryan Alvarado added another goal to his account.
