West Point, NY- The Mount Saint Mary College Men's and Women's Track and Field teams closed out their indoor season with a strong showing at the West Point Tune-Up on Saturday. Head Coach
Fred Callo praised the team's performance, highlighting numerous personal bests and two new school records.
Baldwin Breaks 12-Year Record in the 200m
Maria Baldwin stole the show for the women's team, clocking a blazing 28.28 seconds in the 200m, not only securing fifth place but also shattering the 12-year-old school record previously held since February 2012. Coach Callo lauded her hard work and dedication, stating, "I am so happy for Maria breaking the 200 Meter record, she has been working hard all winter."
Other Standouts for the Women
Several other women's team members impressed with personal bests.
Vanessa Mleczko shaved off time in the 60m (9.43) and 200m (32.98), while
Raina Quinones set a new personal best in the 200m (31.46).
Sarah Kannenberg continued her strong season with a 10th-place finish in the 800m (2:52.01). In the field events,
Lindsey Medina and Lily La Rocca both qualified for the weight throw finals, with Medina throwing a season-best 10.01 meters for eighth place.
Christiano Closes Indoor Season with Record-Breaking Mile
On the men's side,
Christopher Christiano capped off his impressive indoor season with another school record. He clocked a 4:36.04 in the mile, securing 10th place and etching his name in the record books. Coach Callo remarked on his dedication, saying, "Chris had to claim one last indoor record for himself, he is extremely self driven and works extremely hard during the week with his training."
Other Men's Highlights
Jordan Wallace and Michael Gilespie also had notable performances, setting new personal bests in the 60m (7.44 and 7.55, respectively) and the 200m (24.49 and 25.66, respectively).
Joseph Carmona recorded a season-best time in the mile (5:23.92).
Looking Ahead
The Knights will have a short break before returning to action at the Fasttrack Last Chance Invitational on Friday, February 23rd at 1:00 PM. With this strong finish to the indoor season, they are sure to carry momentum into the outdoor season, which begins on March 23rd at Wesleyan University.
