Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary traveled down to Farmingdale State College to play their first Skyline Conference match of the year. The Knights came out hot on both ends of the floor. An
Erin Lofaro block led to a
Lauren Petrie three-pointer for the first score of the game. They knocked down four shots from beyond the arc in the first quarter, including two from the Knights's leading scorer on the night
Elizabeth Lofaro.
Kate Hughes would knock down a couple of free throws in the opening minute of the second quarter to put the Mount up 22-13, but Farmingdale caught the Knights sleeping and outscored them 23-9 this quarter.
Mount Saint Mary had to respond coming out of the half if they were going to stay in this one.
Brianna Guglielmo knocked down a three on the Knight's first possession as the team seemed more energetic. Good hustle plays combined with their full-court press off the inbound forced 18 Rams turnovers, which led to 14 points off turnovers. The depth of the Knights also showed this half when the wear and tear began to set in on Farmingdale. Mount Saint Mary's bench outscored the Rams 24-3, which is something Head Coach
Marion Dietz emphasized before the season. The Mount rallied and flipped the tables, outsourcing Farmingdale 23-9 in the third quarter to lead 52-44 with 10 minutes remaining. Six different Knights scored in the fourth, as their defense continued to complement their offense. Mount Saint Mary held onto their lead and then some, winning this match by a score of 73-56.
