Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary looked to win back-to-back Skyline Conference games after defeating Farmingdale State College last week. Yeshiva University came into town as the Knights attempted to extend their 25-0 all-time record over the Maccabees. The Mount started off on an 11-0 run, which included seven points off steals. The Knights got solid outings from everyone as all 12 players on the roster recorded double-digit minutes played. In the first quarter, Mount Saint Mary's leading scorers on the afternoon,
Sara Cashin and
Erin Lofaro, both had four points apiece as they led 17-6 after 10 minutes.
Shannon Phelan and
Erin Lofaro each knocked down a three early on in the second quarter to put the Knights up 23-6. The Mount found success offensively through their solid play on defense, scoring more than a third of their points off turnovers from the Maccabees. Freshman Kiera Frias ended the half with an inbounds steal and then a layup to record her first points as a Knight.
The Knights came out of the half with a 33-point lead, looking to continue with their solid play on both ends. Freshman
Margaret Trinkaus has found her role on the team as a two-way player who can stretch the floor on offense while locking up the opponent's best forward on the other end. Six different Knights, including Trinkaus, scored in the third quarter as they led 61-11 heading into the fourth. Sophomore
Sara Cashin recorded a career-high 12 rebounds this game and her second career double-double. Yeshiva would outscore Mount Saint Mary 11-10 in the fourth, but the game was all but over at this point. The Knights came out with a 49-point victory over the Maccabees 71-22.
