Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball continues the 2021 season Monday night with a home match against defending conference champion Manhattanville before traveling to St. Joseph's-L.I. for a Saturday afternoon match with the Golden Eagles. At A Glace: The Knights have dropped two straight decisions, including a 3-1 conference match to Farmingdale State in its last outing, and stand at 8-7 overall and an even 2-2 in Skyline Conference play.
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) is off to a sizzling start for the Knights, leading the team with 234 kills, good for 4.33 per set. A strong all-around player, Riddle also ranks second on the team in aces (35), digs (176) and total blocks (15).
Freshman
Jackie Wolf (Kings Park, N.Y.) sits atop the team leader board in aces with 55, averaging exactly 1.0 aces per set through the season's first 15 contests. She supports the offense with 121 kills, good for better than two per frame, and is third on the team with 142 digs.
Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) is handing out 7.35 assists per set, 404 helpers overall, and is adding 14 aces and 127 digs.
Haley Houghton (Bellerose, N.Y.) paces the team with 20 total blocks, while
Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) has lifted a team best 229 digs and added 22 service aces.
Scouting The Valiants: Manhattanville comes calling on Monday at 7-4 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Valiants are coming off a four-set loss to USMMA on Thursday and have dropped three of their last four decisions overall.
Alejandra Figueroa is one of four players with at least 50 kills on the season with a team-high 87. She has added 14 service aces and 65 digs for the Valiants.
Vianca Vital and Emily Gonzalez are tied for the team lead in aces with 24, with Vital holding the team lead in assists with 239, good for 8.24 per set. Vital opens the week as the Skyline Conference leader in assists per frame.
Grace Ballagas enters Monday's match with 159 digs, averaging just shy of 5.0 per set, and also enters the week as the conference leader in digs per set.
Previewing The Golden Eagles: St. Joseph's begins a three-match week on Monday at USMMA before hosting Hunter on Thursday leading into Saturday's tilt with the Knights. The Golden Eagles begin the week at 4-6 overall and a perfect 2-0 in conference play.
Amanda Goldstein begins the week with a team-high 83 kills and is chipping in 14 service aces and 10 total blocks.
Kaitlynn D'Angelo leads the way with 22 aces through the season's first 10 matches with April Sexton sitting atop the team leaderboard with 85 digs. Veronica Miessmer paces the Golden Eagles with 139 assists, averaging just under seven helpers per set.
Skyline Conference Leaderboard: Riddle, who has been named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week each of the last two weeks, is the league leader in kills per set with her 4.33. Wolf leads the way in the league with 1.00 aces per set and Barbara enters the week ranked third in digs per frame with 4.40.
Recent History: The Knights will look to stop a three-match losing skid to the Valiants and will look to score their first win against Manhattanville since a 3-0 sweep on September 19, 2012.
The series with the Golden Eagles has seen the Mount win nine of the last 16 matches, including a 3-2 home win on October 27, 2018.
What's Next: Following Saturday's trip to St. Joseph's, the Mount will head to Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday before playing host to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Thursday.
