Men’s Soccer Travels To #17/6 Rutgers-Newark Monday Night

Knights coming off 2-1 home loss to Cobleskill

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team looks to rebound from a 2-1 non-conference loss to Cobleskill on Friday when it heads to nationally ranked Rutgers-Newark for a Monday night clash with the Scarlet Raiders. At A Glance: The Knights enter Monday's contest at 3-4 overall following Friday's defeat and 1-2 in road contests. The Mount is outscoring its opponents by a slim 13-12 margin through the season's first seven games and rank fourth in the Skyline Conference in scoring average.
 
Junior Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) leads six different players with a goal for the Knights with a team-high six and paces 10 different players with at least one point with 13. Dolan is tied for second in the Skyline Conference in total points and leads the league with his six markers.
 
Joseph Sadofsky (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and Matt Fuge (Avon, Conn.) have each scored twice for the Knights, while Fred Stark (Hollis, N.Y.) has registered five points on a goal and a team-high three assists. Stark is currently tied for third in the conference in assists on the season.
 
In goal, the Knights have used four different keepers through seven games with a pair of freshmen seeing the bulk of the action. Jakup Myrtja (Newburgh, N.Y.) has started four games and leads the Knights with 27 saves and a .771 save percentage, while classmate Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) has started three contests and made 10 stops while featuring a .714 save percentage.
 
Last Time Out: Mount Saint Mary played its second home game of the week on Friday, dropping a tough 2-1 decision to visiting Cobleskill. Dolan gave the Knights a 1-0 lead late in the first half off an assist from Connor Lynch (Clifton Park, N.Y.), but Khadim Diba scored twice in the second half for the visitors, including the game winner with 65 seconds left in regulation time.
 
Rapp made four saves in the game for the Knights, while Cobleskill keeper, Sam Sherbacow, made three stops for the Fighting Tigers in the victory.
 
Scouting The Scarlet Raiders: Rutgers-Newark enters Monday's tilt at a perfect 6-0 on the season and ranked #17 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll and #6 in the latest D3Soccer.com rankings and are coming off a 2-0 win over NJAC rival Rutgers-Camden on Saturday.
 
Carlos Castro scored the deciding goal for the Scarlet Raiders just 25 seconds into the tilt and Chigozie Atubi tallied in the 20th minute to finish off the scoring in the game. Rutgers-Newark held the edge in shots 15-3 and shots on goal 6-2 in the game, while corner kicks were even at 4-4.
 
Andres Medein picked up the shutout in goal for Rutgers-Newark with a pair of saves in the game, with James Brett stopping four shots in the loss for Rutgers-Camden.
 
Fabio De Sousa paces the Scarlet Raiders in scoring through six games with four goals and 10 points, while Hubert Dul has assisted on a team-high three goals. De Sousa and Stefano Muniz have each tallied a pair of game winning goals heading into Monday.
 
Medina has seen the bulk of action in goal over the first six games, playing 452:15 of a possible 553:39. He has three shutouts to his name and holds a 0.20 goals against average and a .875 save percentage while stopping seven opponent shots.
 
What's Next: Following Monday's tilt, the Knights will be off until they welcome league rival St. Joseph's-Brooklyn to Kaplan Field on September 27. The Mount's second league tilt of the season is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
