Men’s Soccer Set To Tussle With Sarah Lawrence, Old Westbury

Knights enter week unbeaten in league play

Newburgh, N.Y. – Winners of two straight overall and each of its three Skyline Conference games, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team will play host to Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday night before traveling to Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon. Tuesday's game at Kaplan Field is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. with Saturday's road contest set for 2:00 p.m.
 
At A Glance: The Knights have won back-to-back contests to even their overall record at 5-5-0 and move to a perfect 3-0-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Mount posted a 2-0 record against league rivals last week, blanking St. Joseph's-L.I. 2-0 and holding off the College of Mount Saint Vincent 2-1.
 
Junior forward Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) is leading the team in scoring with 10 goals and 21 points and has scored at least one goal in all but two contests in 2017. He has scored two goals in each of the team's last two outings and stands just three markers shy of matching the program's career record in the category.
 
Matt Fuge (Avon, Conn.) and Joseph Sadofsky (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) have each found the back of the net twice heading into Tuesday's tilt and are tied for second on the team in points along with Fred Stark who paces the team with three assists.
 
In goal, a pair of freshmen have seen the majority of action through the season's first 10 games. Jakup Myrtja (Newburgh, N.Y.) has played 562 minutes between the pipes and holds the team lead in saves with 34 and in save percentage with a mark of .739. He picked up his first career shutout against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. Classmate Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) has seen time in six contests and holds a 1.70 goals against average with 12 stops. He has three wins to his credit in 318 minutes of work.
 
Dolan is tied for the league lead in goals along with Maritime's Parker Gallt and is second in the conference in points. He is five points behind Gallt who sits atop the conference leaderboard in the category and is one of just three players in the conference with at least 20 points entering the week.
Last Time Out: Dolan scored twice for the second straight game as the Mount held off a late rally from Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday. He scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season, including his team leading fourth game winning goal of the campaign.
 
Myrtja made the start in goal and played the first 40:24 of the contest, with Rapp coming on to make a single save for the Knights in 49:36 of action.
 
Gauging The Gryphons: Sarah Lawrence enters Tuesday's contest at 4-6 overall and 0-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Gryphons have dropped three of their last four contests, including a 5-0 decision to Maritime on Saturday.
 
Shots in the contest were nearly even with Maritime holding a slim 18-15 edge in overall attempts and a 12-9 advantage in shots on goal. Mehran Hicks made seven stops in goal for Sarah Lawrence with Michael Rodriguez making nine stops for the Privateers in the shutout win.
 
Colin Berg and Mohamed Camara pace the Sarah Lawrence scoring attack with six goals on the season and stand tied for second on the team with 13 points. Camary Jonas holds the team lead in assists with four and points with 14 and has added five markers on the year.
 
The Gryphons have featured a pair of goalkeepers with Hicks making six starts, stopping 32 and posting a .711 save percentage. Isar Wadhwa has started four games for Sarah Lawrence and has stopped 35 shots.
 
Previewing The Panthers: Old Westbury enters a Tuesday game with St. Joseph's-L.I. with a 4-2-2 overall record and a 1-0-1 conference mark. The Panthers are unbeaten in their last five outings which include wins over Mitchell, Ramapo and Farmingdale State and draws with Kean and Purchase.
 
In its last outing, Old Westbury played Purchase to a 1-1 draw after outshooting its opponent 28-12 overall and 10-5 in shots on goal. Jorey Garcia gave Old Westbury the lead in the 19th minute, before a Rob Cal marker from Purchase in the 29th minute closed out the scoring in the game.
 
Mike Warren finished the game with four saves for Old Westbury, while his counterpart from Purchase, Jordan Meade, finished with nine stops.
 
Garcia and Ronald Monge lead the Old Westbury offensive attack with four goals apiece with Garcia leading the way with nine points. Alexander Routledge leads the team with a pair of assists and is one of 10 different players with a point for the Panthers.
 
Warren is the only keeper used by Old Westbury this far and holds a .842 save percentage and a 1.05 goals against average while making 48 saves. He ranks second in the Skyline Conference in total saves, third in goals against average and leads the league in save percentage.
 
What's Next: The Knights continue their string of alternating home and road games when they play host to Maritime on October 11 and travel to Farmingdale State on October 14.
