Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Swimming team picked up a 149-19 non-conference win against visiting Cazenovia on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won all 10 events contested in the meet, with
Ryan Ward (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Jake Schoenherr (New Rochelle, N.Y.) each winning two events.
Ward picked up his victories on Saturday in a pair of freestyle events, topping the field in the 50-yard and 100-yard races. His winning 50-yard time was 24.22 seconds and he topped the field in the 100-yard contest in 52.31 seconds.
Schoenherr continued his standout season on Saturday with victories for the Knights in the 100-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle. He bested the competition in the IM in 1:00.68 and swam to a win in the middle distance freestyle race in 5:27.12.
Steven Fejes (Stony Point, N.Y.) picked up a win for the Mount in the 200-yard freestyle as the Knights took the top three positions with
Philippe Noisy (New York, N.Y.) following in second and
Sam Kenney (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) taking third.
Kyle Barber (Shleton, Conn.) won the 100-yard butterfly for the Knights on Saturday, while freshman
Robert Kohlus (Wading River, N.Y.) took the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke and classmate
Peter O'Malley (Yonkers, N.Y.) won the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Mount's other two wins on Saturday came in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. The squad of Kohlus, Schoenherr, Barber and Ward opened the meet with a winning time of 1:47.80 in the medley race, while the quartet of
Michael Neugebauer (Newburgh, N.Y.),
Christopher Sagan (West Hempstead, N.Y.), O'Malley and Barber took the freestyle race in 1:38.94.
Saturday's win gets Mount Saint Mary back to the .500 mark at 5-5 overall on the season. The Knights will be off until competition until the new year when they travel to Montclair State on January 13.
