PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College softball team (8-6) was swept by non-conference opponent Manhattanville College (4-6), Thursday afternoon at Manhattanville Field, falling 17-0 in game one, and then dropping the finale, 5-1.

The Valiants got off to a quick start in game one with six runs in the first and never looked back. They accumulated 17 runs in the first four innings to force a five-inning mercy-rule ending.

Alyssa Taylor picked up the win for the Valiants, tossing four innings without allowing a hit. Senior starter Amanda Barrese (Staten Island, N.Y.) shouldered the loss, allowing 11 earned runs on across four innings.

Game two got off to a slower start and was able to go the full seven innings. Manhattanville got on the board first again, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second, two of which were unearned. Pitcher Alyssa Taylor stroked a home run to center field in the home half of the third to push the Valiant lead to 4-0, and then right fielder Brittany Deieso picked up an RBI double to push the home team's lead to five runs. The Knights got their only run of the day in the top of the fourth when junior third baseman Danielle Soto (Miller Place, N.Y.) blasted her second home run of the season over the left field fence.

Taylor picked up her second win of the day in the nightcap, going the distance and allowing just one run on two hits with nine strikeouts. Sophomore starter Nicole Lomangino (Wantagh, N.Y.) suffered her first loss of the season, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in six innings of work.

The Knights are scheduled to play next on Saturday, March 29, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader against Purchase College. First pitch of game one is set to take place at 12 p.m.
