Softball Sweeps Defending Skyline Champion Farmingdale State

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College softball team (6-4, 2-0 Skyline) opened Skyline Conference play in a big way on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against defending Skyline Champion Farmingdale State College (7-7, 0-2 Skyline) Saturday afternoon on the Farmingdale State College campus. The Knights took game one, 6-2, before coming out on top, 7-2, in the finale.

Sophomore starter Victoria Goldbach (Middle Village, N.Y.) picked up the victory in Saturday's opener, tossing the complete seven innings and allowing just two runs. Taylor Webb suffered the loss for the Rams after allowing six runs (five earned) across the complete seven innings.
 
Freshman designated player Michelle Surdan (Acton, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run in Saturday's first game. Senior catcher Stephanie Karcher (Oxford, Conn.) hit 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in the fifth inning, while senior second baseman Ashley Peel (Shelton, Conn.) hit a solo shot in her 1-for-2 effort.
 
Senior starter Amanda Barrese (Staten Island, N.Y.) went the distance in game two to earn the win, allowing just two runs and striking out a pair in her seven innings. Taylor Tedeschi took the loss for Farmingdale in Saturday's finale, allowing seven runs (four earned) and 11 hits across the complete seven innings.
 
Junior third baseman Danielle Soto (Miller Place, N.Y.) hit 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI in the Knights' second win of the afternoon. Sophomore right fielder Brianne Germain (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) also went 2-for-4, scoring three times and adding an RBI. Sophomore first baseman Kate Zubicki (Kearny, N.J.) was the third Knight to go 2-for-4, knocking in a run in the process.
 
The Knights return to action today, March 23, when they continue their Skyline schedule with a doubleheader against NYU-Poly. First pitch of game one will take place at noon at Wagner College.
