BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team (10-4, 6-1 Skyline) built off of Saturday's rout of Maritime College with an 82-51 victory over Skyline Conference rival NYU-Polytechnic (2-11, 0-7 Skyline) Tuesday evening.
Senior guard
Joe Stabach (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Knights into battle with 22 points on the evening, which includes six three pointers. Senior forward
Chris Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) followed with 13 points and tied for the team lead with senior forward
Joe Henain (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) with seven boards.
After trailing for a bit in the opening minutes, a 13-0 run put the Knights up 19-10 and gave them a lead they would never surrender. Some hot shooting which included four of Stabach's treys sent the Knights into the locker room with a 45-24 advantage. The second half looked much the same, as the Knights outscored their hosts, 37-27, in the second frame to go home with a 31-point victory, their second 30+ point conquest in as many games.
Poly was led by Brendan Gallagher, who scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the loss. Thomas Fabian, Isaac Neaves and Jethro Auguste each banked nine points for the home team. Neaves and Auguste added eight and seven boards to their efforts, respectively, while Neaves dished out a game-high five assists.
The Knights shot 40.9 percent (27-of-66) from the field in Tuesday's win, including 12-of-28 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc. They made their opponents to regret their 18 giveaways to the tune of a 20-3 points-of-turnovers advantage.
The Knights return to action on Saturday, Jan. 18, when they continue their Skyline schedule with a trip to SUNY College at Old Westbury. Tip-off for Saturday's battle is set for 1 p.m.
