NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College dominated the opening set on Tuesday evening and never looked back on its way to a straight set victory over Rutgers-Newark (25-11, 25-23, 25-14). The Knights improve to 2-6 on the year, while the Scarlet Raiders drop back to even at 2-2.
Juniors
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and
Katie Lynch (Island Park, N.Y.) paced the offense for the Mount with nine kills each. Sophomore
Kaitlin O'Brien (Staten Island, N.Y.) filled out the stat sheet nicely with seven kills, four aces, and 10 digs, while freshmen
Claire Scully (Bloomfield, N.J.) and
Kristen Maddock (Medford, N.Y.) each posted double-digit assists, with 22 and 12, respectively.
Up next for the Knights is the SUNY New Paltz Hawk Invite. The Mount opens play against Ithaca College at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
