Softball Splits with Old Westbury

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Junior Amanda Barrese (Staten Island, N.Y.) held Old Westbury to only two runs in game two of a Skyline Conference double-header on Sunday afternoon.  After losing game one 3-2, Barrese and the Knights beat the Panthers by the same score putting them at 4-2 within the conference and 11-9 overall.  Old Westbury dropped to 2-6 in the Skyline and 10-12 overall.

Old Westbury lit up the scoreboard first in the back end of the double-header when opposing pitcher Alyssa Clancy homered to right field in the bottom of the second inning.  Jessica Spero then singled and advanced to third after a pair of singles by Jessica Colucci and Alex Heany.  Spero put the Panthers on top 2-0 when Barrese threw a wild pitch.

Sophomore Stephanie Karcher (Oxford, Conn.) cut the lead in half in the top of third with a solo home run to right field.  In the top of the fourth inning, junior Chelsea Hepburn (New York, N.Y.) led off with a single and moved to second after a sacrifice bunt by junior Nicole Petkevicius (Long Beach, N.Y.).  Hepburn landed on third after a ground out by freshman Julianne Tracy (Glendale, N.Y.).  Senior Victoria DeMarco (Hicksville, N.Y.) tied the game when her single to left field plated Hepburn.  The Knights finally went on top in the sixth inning when senior Ashley Schirripa (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored on a sacrifice fly from Tracy.  That was all Barrese would need to earn her fourth win of the season.

In the first game, senior Caitlin Maynes (Miller Place, N.Y.) allowed three runs and five hits in the loss dropping her record to 6-4 for the season.  Schirripa recorded a pair of hits and sophomore Danielle Soto (Miller Place, N.Y.) picked up the only RBI for the Knights.

The Knights go back on the road on Tuesday when they face John Jay at Randall's Island #12 for a non-conference double-header.  Game one is set to start at 3:00 p.m.
