Women’s Swimming Defeats Maritime, 131-68; Men Drop 137-67 Decision

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's swimming team (4-2, 2-0 Skyline) swam away with a 131-68 over Maritime College (3-2-1, 1-1-1 Skyline), but the Mount men's swimming team (3-3, 0-2 Skyline) dropped a 137-67 decision to the Maritime men (5-1, 3-0 Skyline) Friday evening in a Skyline Conference dual meet  at the Kaplan Center.

The women took nine event victories, including eight individual top finishes. The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Regina Zeoli (Washingtonville, N.Y.), freshman Sarah Barbarula (Monroe, Conn.), freshman Kira Adler (Shelton, Conn.) and freshman Allison Sciucco (Middletown, N.Y.) opened the night with a victory by 1/100th of a second with a time of 2:04.35 to Maritime's 2:04.36.

Junior Meghan Seaman (Staten Island, N.Y.) took the top place in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:42.15, while freshman Jessica Daigle (Trumbull, Conn.) grabbed second at 12:17.66. Adler and Zeoli finished 1-2 in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 2:08.54 and 2:11.38, respectively. Sciucco took first in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing at 27.15, while freshman Amanda Bocekci (Paramus, N.J.) was close behind at 27.53.

Sophomore Lauren Becerra (White Plains, N.Y.) took a win in the 200 IM at 2:22.05. Seaman, Sciucco and Bocecki took the top three spots in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 59.12, 59.24 and 1:01.62, respectively. Becerra took another victory in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:08.90. Adler and Daigle were first and second in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:55.92 and 6:09.13. Becerra grabbed the final women's victory of the night in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:19.00.

The men were overmatched by a very deep Maritime swim roster in Friday's meet, but still managed to earn a pair of individual victories. Junior Jason Lorch (Plainview, N.Y.) was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.26. Later, sophomore Sam Watson (Groton, Conn.) finished first in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:00.50.

The men and women swim again tomorrow, Dec. 7, in a non-conference dual meet at William Paterson University. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
