NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder Michael Ennis (Carmel, N.Y.) scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the third-seeded Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team (11-4-2) to a 7-1 victory over No. 6 St. Joseph's College (L.I.) (5-14-2) on Saturday at Kaplan Field in their Skyline Conference Championship quarterfinal matchup. The Knights advance to the semifinals, which will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Purchase College.

Ennis opened the game's scoring at the 11:04 mark off a cross from senior midfielder Brandon Mincher (Bayport, N.Y.). He followed that up in the 34th minute after picking up a ball that was deflected away by a defender and sending it home for what eventually proved to be the game winner.

Filling in for senior goalkeeper Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.), freshman goalkeeper Tyler Biscone (Garden City, N.Y.) played a game better than the numbers tell to pick up his first career victory and advance the Knights to the semifinals. Avery Gomez shouldered the loss for the Golden Eagles after allowing seven goals.

The Knights built on their lead in the second half, adding another five goals. Junior forward Matt Garcia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y) picked up a goal in the second frame to go with two assists to complete a four-point game. Junior defender Chris Marchese (Cold Spring, N.Y.) picked up his fourth goal of the season, while senior midfielder Christian Redl (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored his second of the year. Freshman midfielder Matt Minniter (Mahopac, N.Y.) found the back of the net for the first time in his collegiate career in the second half off an assist from freshman defender Brett Fucheck (Newburgh, N.Y.). The Knights also scored off an own goal. Mincher picked up two assists in Saturday's win.

Robert Gomez scored the only goal for the Golden Eagles on an impressive play. Gomez redirected Bradly Frabizio's free kick with his head just inches before it hit the goalkeeper's hands to get the Golden Eagles on the board.

The Knights doubled up the Golden Eagles with an 18-9 shot differential on the afternoon. The Golden Eagles held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

With the win, the Knights advance in the Skyline Conference Championships and will travel to Purchase for a semifinal-round matchup with the second-seeded Panthers on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
