NEWARK, N.J. - Mount Saint Mary College won its seventh match in a row on Monday evening, defeating non-conference foe Rutgers-Newark in straight sets (25-23, 25-17, 25-22). The Knights improve to 9-6 on the year.
It was a balanced attack for the Knights, but senior
Mary Ann Raftery (Long Beach, N.Y.) led the way with nine kills. Senior
Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.), sophomore
Katie Lynch (Island Park, N.Y.), and sophomore
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) each added seven kills. Halverson also posted a match-high 25 assists, while freshman
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) racked up a match-high 20 digs.
With her six digs during tonight's match, Halverson eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark for her career.
The Knights have the week off before heading to Montclair State University on Saturday. MSMC will play Montclair State at 11:00 a.m. and then King's College at 1:00 p.m.
