NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Junior
Victoria DeMarco (Hicksville, N.Y.) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Mount Saint Mary College defeated SUNY College at Old Westbury, 5-3, in the opening game of Saturday's Skyline Conference double-header.  However, the Panthers won the second game by a final score of 8-2 to clinch the fourth and final spot in next week's conference tournament.
Tied at 3-3 headed to the seventh, junior starting pitcher
Caitlin Maynes (Miller Place, N.Y.) set the Panthers down in order.  In the bottom half of the frame, senior
Lacey Kehlenbeck (Port Jervis, N.Y.) bunted her way on, setting the table for DeMarco.  DeMarco launched the fifth pitch of her at-bat to left field for a walk-off, two-run homer.
The Knights trailed early on a solo home run from Old Westbury's Jennifer Jean, but took the lead with two runs in the fourth.  Sophomore
Chelsea Hepburn (New York, N.Y.) and freshman
Stephanie Karcher (Oxford, Conn.) came through with RBI singles to make it 2-1, Mount.
Old Westbury tied it with one in the fifth, but the Knights scratched out another run to take a 3-2 lead.  Junior Ashley Schrippa (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled to right-center, allowing DeMarco to score from second.  The lead would be short-lived, however, as the Panthers scored again in the top of the sixth to make it 3-3.
DeMarco finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored.  Sophomore
Ashley Peel (Shelton, Conn.) had two hits (2-for-3) and a run scored.  In the circle, Maynes allowed eight hits and three earned runs.  She struck out seven to earn the victory.
In game two, Old Westbury scored one run in the first, four in the second, and three in the third to take an early 8-0 lead.  The Knights finally got on the board in the fourth as freshman
Angela Zayas (Livingston Manor, N.Y.) grounded out, allowing Peel to score from third.  In the fifth, Maynes led off with a double and came around to score on an Old Westbury error.  Schrippa flew out with runners at first and third, ending the Mount's threat.  The Knights would go quietly in the sixth and seventh, allowing the Panthers to claim an 8-2 win.
Old Westbury's Alyssa Clancy allowed just six hits and one earned run to take the victory for the Panthers.  Clancy struck out six.  Sophomore
Amanda Barrese (Staten Island, N.Y.) took the loss for the Knights.
The Knights finish the season at 14-18 overall.
