NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College junior Caitlin Maynes (Miller Place, N.Y.) pitched an eight-inning shutout in game one and sophomore Chelsea Hepburn (New York, N.Y.) homered in game two as the Knights (5-7) swept St. Joseph's College (5-3) in Skyline Conference action on Friday.

Maynes allowed seven hits in the opener, but kept the Golden Eagles off the board for eight innings.  In the bottom of the eighth, junior Ashley Schirripa (Staten Island, N.Y.) put down a beautiful sacrifice bunt, forcing a tough play by the SJC first baseman.  The ball tipped off the glove and trickled into right field, allowing freshman Stephanie Karcher (Oxford, Conn.) to score the winning run from second.

In game two, Hepburn doubled in the second inning and scored the first run of the game on a St. Joseph's error.  Her two-run home run in the fourth made it 3-0 and the Knights cruised to a 4-1 win.  Sophomore pitcher Amanda Barrese (Staten Island, N.Y.) went the distance for the victory, allowing just three hits and one unearned run.

Up next for the Knights is a Skyline Conference double-header at Farmingdale.  The games are set for a noon start on Sunday.
