Maynes Fires No-Hitter To Salvage Trip

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Mount Saint Mary College junior pitcher Caitlin Maynes (Miller Place, N.Y.) tossed a no-hitter on Friday as the Knights wrapped up their Florida trip with a 3-0 win over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

The Knights scratched out a pair of runs in the fourth inning as freshman Danielle Soto (Miller Place, N.Y.) and junior Ashley Schirripa (Staten Island, N.Y.) both came around to score.  The Mount added an insurance run in the sixth when freshman Angela Zayas (Livingston Manor, N.Y.) crossed the plate on a single from senior Lacey Kehlenbeck (Port Jervis, N.Y.).

Maynes faced just 23 batters, allowing baserunners via error in the second inning and the seventh inning.  She struck out six.

Earlier in the day, the Knights dropped a 5-3 decision to Ohio Wesleyan University.  Schirripa was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Kehlenbeck had two hits and scored a run.  Junior Victoria DeMarco (Hicksville, N.Y.) went 2-for-3.

On Thursday, Mount Saint Mary fell to St. Joseph's (Maine) by a score of 9-0 and to Albright College  by a final of 5-1.  Schirripa finished 2-for-3 against St. Joseph's, recording two of the Mount's five hits.  Sophomore Ashley Peel (Shelton, Conn.) had a pair of hits and scored the only run against Albright in the early game.

In the late game on Tuesday, the Knights managed just four hits during a 2-0 loss to St. Mary's.  Schirripa was 2-for-2.  During a 6-0 loss to Salem State earlier on Tuesday, Soto and Schirripa recorded the only two hits for MSMC.

On Monday, Mount Saint Mary was no-hit in back-to-back extra innings games.  St. Lawrence defeated the Knights, 1-0, in the first game, while Potsdam took the second game, 2-0.

The Knights return north to take on Hunter College in a double-header on Wednesday, March 21.  The games are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Mount Airy Sports Park in New Windsor.
