Mount Sweeps Skyline Tri-Match

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Boosted by several standout performances, the Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team swept a Skyline Conference tri-match on Saturday by defeating the College of Mount Saint Vincent and the Polytechnic Institute of NYU. The Knights improved to 4-8 overall and to 2-0 in the Skyline.

In the opening match, the Mount split the opening two sets with Mount Saint Vincent before taking the final two sets (26-24, 25-14). Junior Mary Ann Raftery (Long Beach, N.Y.) and freshman Taylor Woegens (Bogota, N.J.) each tallied 15 kills and double-digit digs. Woegens led the team with 19 digs, while Raftery piled up 17. Junior Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) collected 37 assists to go along with a team-high four aces.

Against NYU-Poly, the defending Skyline champs, the Mount would drop the opening set (19-25) before rallying to win the final three (25-22, 25-21, 25-20). A well-contested match throughout, it was Woegens and Raftery who led the way once again. Woegens finished with 13 kills and 18 digs, while Raftery totaled 11 kills and 16 digs. Halverson dished out a season-high 40 assists and also posted 10 digs.

The Knights face a non-conference match with Ramapo College on Tuesday, September 27. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Ramapo.
