Scranton Swarms Mount

SCRANTON, Pa. – Despite a late goal from junior forward Matt Pagano (Mahopac, N.Y.), his second goal in as many games, the Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team lost to the University of Scranton, 4-1, on Sunday in Scranton. The Knights are now 2-3-1 overall, while the Royals improved to 2-2-1.

Scranton senior Joseph Burbella (Stroudsburg, Pa.) put the Royals on the board in the 23rd minute when he punched home a shot from in front of the net on a feed from freshman Kevin Kozic (Raritan, N.J.). Freshman Sam Davitt (Glen Rock, N.J.) gave Scranton a 2-0 lead in the 34th minute when he buried a shot from 12 yards out on an assist from junior Bill McGuiness (Forty Fort, Pa.).

After sophomore Derek Klingman (Clarks Summit, Pa.) made it 3-0 with a free kick goal in the 67th minute, Pagano broke up the shutout with a goal in the 71st minute. Junior Kevin Ryan (West Islip, N.Y.) was credited with an assist on the play. Klingman would add another tally for Scranton in the 90th minute, making the final score 4-1.

Mount Saint Mary sophomore goalkeeper Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.) made eight saves.

The Knights will host Bard College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. on Kaplan Field.
