FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Managing just one hit against Farmingdale State College junior pitcher Hope Zino (Bay Shore, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College softball team lost its Skyline Conference tournament opener by a score of 4-0. The Knights fell to 20-12-1 overall and will play in a loser's bracket game on Saturday.
Farmingdale struck first when junior Madison Snyder (Medford, N.Y.) singled and scored on a fielder's choice from sophomore Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.) in the second inning. Snyder would hurt the Knights again in the fourth inning with a triple to left field. She would score later in the frame on a Mount error.
With her team still leading 2-0 in the sixth, Farmingdale sophomore Jennifer Jarczynski (West Babylon, N.Y.) launched a two-run homer to give the Rams a pair of insurance runs.
Mount Saint Mary would manage a baserunner in the seventh when sophomore
Caitlin Maynes (Miller Place, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch. Unfortunately, Zino struck out the final batter, her ninth strikeout of the afternoon, to seal the victory.
Mount senior
Sarah Johnson (Montgomery, N.Y.) recorded the only hit for the Knights. Maynes was solid in defeat, allowing just seven hits and three earned runs over six innings.
The Knights will continue play in the Skyline tournament in a loser's bracket contest on Saturday. They'll play the loser of the NYU-Poly and Old Westbury game at 1:00 p.m. at Farmingdale.
