Mount Sniffs Out Two Wins Against Bloodhounds

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's softball team put their winning streak at six with two wins today against John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Despite the wet weather, the Mount found a way to prevail, 12-3 in game one, and 6-2 in game two.

Junior Lacey Kehlenbeck (Port Jervis, N.Y.) got the Knights off to a quick start in game one with a leadoff homer. After freshman Brittany O'Brien (Brooklyn, N.Y.) walked, senior Sarah Johnson (Montgomery, N.Y.) hit a triple to put the Knights on top, 2-0. Johnson later scored on a single by sophomore Christina Cruz (North Plainfield, N.J.). After a single from freshman Nicole Petkevicius (Long Beach, N.Y.) and sophomore Victoria DeMarco's (Hicksville, N.Y.) walk, Kehlenbeck got up for a second time and blasted a grand slam. The Knights ended the first leading 8-0.

Sophomore Caitlin Maynes (Miller Place, N.Y.) pitched well, scattering four hits and three runs over six innings. The Mount tacked on four more runs putting the final score at 12-3.

Freshman Amanda Barrese (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned the win in game two. Kehlenbeck was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Senior Jackie Governale (Bethpage, N.Y.) added a home run while DeMarco was 2-for-3 with a homerun and triple. The final score was 6-2.

The Mount will be off until Monday when they play a rescheduled double-header against Union College.
