NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. - Behind two complete game shutouts from junior Hope Zino (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Farmingdale State College swept a pair of Skyline Conference games from Mount Saint Mary College on Friday evening. The Rams (22-4, 10-2 Skyline) won the opener, 1-0, and defeated the Knights (14-11-1, 7-5 Skyline) in game two, 6-0.
Zino allowed four hits in game one while walking one and striking out nine. Working even more efficiently, the junior yielded just two hits in game two and struck out ten.
Farmingdale scored the only run of game one in the fourth inning. Senior Nicole Farber (Oakdale, N.Y.) doubled to lead off the inning, moved to third on a flyout from junior Madison Snyder (Medford, N.Y.), and scored on a groundout from sophomore Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.).
In game two, the Rams scratched out single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings and carried a 3-0 lead into the seventh frame. Taking advantage of two walks and two Mount errors, Farmingdale put away the game with three runs in the top of the last inning.
Mount freshman
Ashley Peel (Shelton, Conn.) was 2-for-3 in game one, while sophomore
Victoria DeMarco (Hicksville, N.Y.) and freshman
Brittany O'Brien (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded the only hits of game two. Sophomore pitcher
Caitlin Maynes (Miller Place, N.Y.) was excellent in game one, limiting Farmingdale to nine hits and one run while striking out three.
The Knights head to Purchase College for a pair of games on Saturday morning. Because of the weather forecast, the games will now start at 10:00 a.m.
