NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Junior
Lacey Kehlenbeck (Port Jervis, N.Y.) and freshman Brittany O'Brien (Brooklyn, N.Y.) sparked the Mount Saint Mary College softball team to a record of 6-2 during last week's Spring Break trip to Orlando, Florida.
Kehlenbeck batted .435 and scored a team-best 12 runs. She also stole 13 bases during the eight games. O'Brien was 15-for-26 at the plate (.577), scored 11 runs, and posted an on-base percentage of .621. The freshman also stole six bases during the week.
The Knights also received strong pitching from sophomore
Caitlin Maynes (Miller Place, N.Y.) and freshman
Amanda Barrese (Staten Island, N.Y.). The two combined to allow just 13 runs in eight games and walked just one batter in 51 innings. Opponents hit .222 against the pair.
After opening the trip with two well-played losses to Susqehanna University, the Knights rolled during a double-header with the Merchant Marine Academy, winning game one, 18-0, and game two, 13-0. On Thursday, MSMC won both games by a score of 6-2, the first over Thomas College and the second over Cedar Crest College. The Knights continued their winning ways on Friday with an 8-2 win over Thomas and a 3-0 blanking of Rutgers-Camden.
Mount Saint Mary opens northern play with a double-header at Hunter College on Thursday, March 17. The opener is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in New York, N.Y.
