FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College junior
Matt Pagano (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal in the 106th minute to send the Mount to a 2-1 double overtime victory over Farmingdale State College. The Knights bounce to 7-8-1 overall and 4-5 in Skyline Conference play. The loss bumps the Rams to 4-12 on the season and 3-6 in the Skyline.
Needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Knights struck first in the 20th minute of play to gain the early lead. Following a foul in the box, Mount sophomore
Brandon Mincher (Bayport, N.Y.) placed a penalty kick to the bottom left corner of the net to put the Knights up,
1-0. Despite holding a commanding 11-2 advantage in shots, the Knights were unable to build on their lead going into halftime.
Just ten minutes into the second half, the Rams tied the game at 1-1. Farmingdale State College freshman Robert Hein redirected a shot by teammate Tyler Balzer to beat Mount goalkeeper sophomore
Matt Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.). Both teams remained scoreless in the remaining minutes of regulation to force overtime.
In the 106th minute, Pagano dribbled down the left side of the field and beat Ram keeper Matthew Ward for the game-winner. Pagano's goal is his sixth of the year and his second game-winner of the season.
Darling totaled seven saves and Farmingdale goalkeeper Matthew Ward tallied 10 saves.
The Mount's hopes of postseasons play stay alive as a result of today's win. The Knights' playoff fate is dependent on the results of the remaining Skyline Conference games.
The Knights close out regular season play against Rutgers-Newark on Monday, October 24. The Mount will travel to Newark, N.J. and kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
