MASPETH, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team lost a non-conference game to John Jay on Saturday by a score of 2-0. The Knights drop to 0-4 overall, while the Bloodhounds improved to 3-1.
After outshooting the Mount by a margin of 10-2 in the first half, John Jay finally cashed in on their chances in the final minute of play. With just twenty-two seconds remaining before halftime, senior Jeimy Polo (Miami, Fla.) headed in a Jason Walker (Windsor, Conn.) corner kick to put the Bloodhounds on top.
John Jay carried the momentum into the second half and picked up another goal in the fifty-fourth minute, when the speedy Edward Gonzalez (Bayside, Fla.) fought off a Knight defender and nailed the left corner of the net for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Mount Saint Mary sophomores
Ryan Folken (Centereach, N.Y.) and
Drew Altieri (Voorheesville, N.Y.) managed the only two shots on goal for the Knights. Freshman
Ron Bonilla (White Plains, N.Y.) made eight saves.
The Knights will make a quick turn-around to host Vassar College on Sunday. The game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. start on Kaplan Field.
