BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Farmingdale State College scored all nine runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Mount Saint Mary College, 9-0, in the loser's bracket final of the Skyline Conference tournament. The Rams advance to play NYU-Poly in tomorrow's championship series, while the Knights were eliminated.
Farmingdale benefitted from three first-inning errors and six hits en route to nine runs. Freshman Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.) delivered a two-run double, freshman Maressa Mistretta (Shirley, N.Y.) followed with a two-run triple, and sophomore Rebecca Richman (West Islip, N.Y.) completed a team cycle in the first inning with a two-run homer.
Mount Saint Mary managed just two hits against Farmingdale junior Heather Buckshaw (Oakdale, N.Y.). Senior
Christine DelPiano (Orange, Conn.) and sophomore
Danielle Orender (Wall, N.J.) each recorded a single. Buckshaw struck out seven.
The Knights close the season with an overall record of 17-24.
