NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's soccer team dropped a Skyline Conference game to Farmingdale State College by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. The loss moves the Knights to 0-9-2 overall and 0-3-2 in conference play, while the Rams improve to 5-8-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the Skyline Conference.

The Knights and Rams fought to a first half deadlock, both teams going into halftime scoreless. Farmingdale senior Alex Mendolia (Smithtown, N.Y.) almost got the Rams on the board with six minutes left in the half. Mendolia beat the Mount's backline and carried the ball into the box, where he ripped a shot just wide of the net. The Knights scoring opportunities were limited in the first half and they failed to take a shot on goal.

The Rams broke the tie early in the second half when freshman Dennis Sfoglia (Massapequa, N.Y.) knocked a lose ball past Mount freshman goalkeeper Matthew Darling (Staatsburg, N.Y.). Farmingdale sophomore Brian Anderson (Massapequa, N.Y.) served a corner kick that rattled around in front of the net and off the post and then found the feet of Sfoglia. The Rams tallied another goal quickly, when sophomore Mateusz Aniolowski (Copiague, N.Y.) rocketed a shot past Darling from 25 yards out.

The Knights best chance to score came in the 60th minute of play when junior Mike Del Rosso (Washingtonville, N.Y.) took a point blank shot against Ram goalkeeper Ricky Meschkow (Plainview, N.Y.), but Meschkow was able to come up with the save.

Darling finished with eleven saves and faced a total of 24 shots. Aside from the Del Rosso shot, sophomore Kevin Ryan (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was the only other Knight to place a shot on net. The Knights tallied a total of five shots on the day.

The Mount will face Rutgers-Newark on Monday, October 4 in a game that was originally scheduled for Wednesday. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
