Lappe Fires No-Hitter as Mount Blanks Lehman

BRONX, NY – Senior pitcher Erin Lappe (Goshen, N.Y.) pitched a no-hitter on Tuesday afternoon as the Mount Saint Mary College softball team shut out Lehman College, 14-0, in non-conference action. The Blue Knights snapped a six-game losing streak and improved to 5-14 overall.

Lappe allowed just three base-runners in five innings of work while striking out ten. She issued two walks and also hit a batter. The senior improved to 2-4 with the victory.

Mount Saint Mary didn't waste any time in getting on the scoreboard as they sent thirteen batters to the plate in the first inning and tallied nine runs. After freshman leadoff-hitter Danielle Orender (Wall, N.J.) drew a walk, senior Jessica Thibault (Watertown, N.Y.) smacked a double to left field that scored Orender from first. Junior Christine DelPiano (Orange, Conn.) singled to right to drive home Thibault. After another walk, senior Christina Maiocco (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) came through with an RBI single that made it 3-0.

From there, the merry-go-round was set in motion as back-to-back walks forced in runs for the Blue Knights. Orender singled home another run and then with the bases still loaded, DelPiano ripped a triple to left field that cleared the bases and made the score 9-0.

Junior Liz Carlson (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) drove home a run in the second with an RBI groundout to make it 10-0. In the fourth, Thibault tripled to right field that allowed freshman Kristin Zaleskie (Glen Head, N.Y.) and Orender to score. Thibault later scored on a single by Maiocco.

In the fifth, Carlson added another run with a solo home run to right field, giving the Blue Knights a 14-0 advantage.

Maiocco finished 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, Thibault was 2-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs, and DelPiano went 2-for-4 with a run and four RBIs. Zaleskie and freshman Kyle Meditz (Sound Beach, N.Y.) also had a pair ofhits in the game.

Up next for the Mount is a Skyline Conference double-header with St. Joseph's College in Patchogue, N.Y. The games are scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start on Wednesday, April 15.
