SALEM, MA – Competing at the Salem State Invitational in Salem, Massachusetts, the Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team posted a record of 2-1 to finish second out of four teams. The Blue Knights pushed their record for the season to 10-9 overall.
In the opening match, Mount Saint Mary lost in straight sets to Western New England College (16-25, 22-25, 16-25). Sophomore
Teresa Sorrentino (Bellerose, N.Y.) totaled a team-high 9 kills and matched sophomore
Heather Schaeffer (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) for a team-best 12 digs.
Against Southern Maine, the Blue Knights won the first two sets (25-19, 25-11), but dropped the next two (15-25, 21-25). Mount Saint Mary eventually prevailed, 15-9, in the fifth set. Junior
Liz Douress (Rahway, N.J.) finished with 12 kills and Schaeffer tallied 29 digs. Senior
Katie Toole (Wallkill, N.Y.) racked up 39 assists.
Closing out the day, Mount Saint Mary swept away Salem State in three sets (25-10, 25-13, 26-24). Sorrentino finished with 14 kills on 37 attempts and made just 2 errors. Toole put in another strong effort, closing with 32 assists and 7 digs.
Up next for the Blue Knights is a non-conference match with John Jay. The Mount will host John Jay on Tuesday, October 6 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
