Cyclones Drop Blue Knights Twice

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College softball team dropped a pair of game to non-conference foe, Centenary College, on Tuesday to fall to 5-15 overall. The Cyclones improved their mark for the season to 5-13 behind a 4-0 victory in game one and a 16-7 win in game two.

In the first game, Centenary freshman Sarah Olsen (Hopatcong, N.J.) went the distance in the circle, fanning seven while allowing eight hits. Junior Jolyn Veres (Denville, N.J.) drove in a pair of runs with a double in the second inning and finished 2-for-4. Freshman Corrina Becker (Oak Ridge, N.J.) was 4-for-4 in the contest, collecting three singles and a double. The Cyclones ripped fifteen hits in the game and left fifteen runners on base.

Sophomore Carolyn Hunt (Mahopac, N.Y.), freshman Jackie Governale (Bethpage, N.Y.), and freshman Sarah Johnson (Montgomery, N.Y.) each had two hits for the Mount. The Blue Knights stranded ten runners on the bases.

In game two, the Cyclones pounded out thirteen more hits and capitalized on seven Mount Saint Mary errors for a total of sixteen runs. Junior Jenna Wendolowski (Jersey City, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 and scored four times for Centenary. Veres was 2-for-5 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Junior Megan Dunne (Frenchtown, N.J.) was 3-for-5 with a run scored and 2 RBIs.

Freshman Kristin Durborow (Manahawkin, N.J.) picked up the win for the Cyclones, allowing just two runs in four innings. Durborow was also 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring twice and driving in two more.

Governale collected two more hits for the Blue Knights and also drove in a run apiece with doubles in the third and sixth innings. Hunt and senior Jen Weiner (Walden, N.Y.) each scored a pair of runs.

Mount Saint Mary jumps back into Skyline Conference play over the weekend, hosting Old Westbury on Saturday. The double-header is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Kaplan Field.
