Mount Saint Mary entered today's game riding a three-game winning streak, during which the Knights had outscored their opponents 11-2. The Mount welcomed defending Skyline Conference Champion St. Joseph's Long Island to Newburgh, and from the opening kickoff, the Knights executed their game plan by dominating possession and creating numerous offensive opportunities. Just three minutes into the game,
Isabella Milburn nearly put the Knights on the board with a fast-break opportunity, but her shot was saved. Mount Saint Mary continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, outshooting the Golden Eagles 14-5 on the day. In the 34th minute,
Grace Morra looked to break the scoreless tie with a perfectly placed shot toward the bottom-left corner, but the Golden Eagles' goalkeeper made a great save to keep the game tied heading into halftime.
The Mount continued to control possession in the second half and felt it was only a matter of time before it found the back of the net, but Long Island's defense continued to keep the Knights off the scoreboard. Mount Saint Mary's defense also kept the Golden Eagles' offense at bay, with goalkeeper
Julianna Ewashko recording four saves on the afternoon. The Knights finally broke through in the 78th minute when Morra found Milburn for a tap-in goal to give the Mount a 1-0 lead. Just seven minutes later, Milburn returned the favor, finding
Kaitlyn Shotter for an insurance goal in the 85th minute to double the advantage. Mount Saint Mary held on for the 2-0 victory, extending its winning streak to four games and earning its third shutout in the last four contests.
