Mount Saint Mary entered today's match looking to continue its momentum after winning its previous two games following an 0-3 start to the season. The Knights quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when
Faith Welsh and
Hailey Diaz connected with
Grace Morra, who finished off a cross to put the Mount ahead.
The Broncos applied pressure on the Knights' defense throughout the opening portion of the first half, creating multiple scoring opportunities. Goalkeeper
Julianna Ewashko stood strong between the posts, making three saves in the opening 45 minutes. The Knights added to their lead in the 39th minute when
Kaitlyn Shotter unleashed an absolute screamer from the top of the box to send Mount Saint Mary into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
Senior goalkeeper
Elizabeth Lennane entered to start the second half, seeing her first action of the season after returning from injury. The Mount's offense continued its recent surge, with the Knights entering the contest having outscored their opponents 11-2 over their previous three games.
It did not take long for the Knights to find the back of the net again, as Morra scored her second goal of the afternoon off assists from Welsh and
Isabella Milburn. Welsh and Milburn each recorded career highs in assists, finishing with three and two, respectively. Four minutes later, Shotter found the back of the net again in the 54th minute to give the Mount a 4-0 lead.
Mount Saint Mary continued to apply offensive pressure while controlling possession, a key focus for Head Coach
Joe Dolan and the Knights throughout the season. Morra completed her hat trick late in the contest, finishing with three goals and two assists for a career-high eight points as the Knights cruised to a 5-0 shutout victory over SUNY Delhi.
