Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary dominated from the opening whistle in its home match against Kean Jersey City. Both
Grace Morra and
Kaitlyn Shotter recorded two shots on goal within the first eight minutes of play as the Knights kept constant pressure on the Cougars' defense. A defensive miscue by Jersey City gave
Isabella Milburn an opportunity, and she did not disappoint, scoring the first goal of the match in the 11th minute.
A foul inside the Cougars' box gave the Mount a penalty kick opportunity in the 19th minute, with senior captain
Delisianna Naccarato burying her attempt into the right side of the net to extend the Knights' lead to 2-0. Mount Saint Mary recorded 17 shots in the first half alone, with 14 finding the target. The Knights would finish the game with a 30-2 advantage in shots.
Head Coach
Joe Dolan switched up the offensive game plan by moving All-Conference defender
Faith Welsh up to forward, and it took just minutes for the move to pay off. Shotter found Welsh for a goal to put the Knights ahead 3-0. The Cougars would find the back of the net in the 39th minute to cut the deficit to 3-1, but the Mount responded just three minutes later with a rebound goal from
Angelina Robinson to take a 4-1 advantage into halftime.
The Knights kept up the pressure in the second half, creating plenty of chances but struggling to find the back of the net. Every healthy field player for the Mount saw action in the contest and provided valuable minutes. Jersey City scored its second goal in the 72nd minute to make things interesting, cutting the Knights' lead to 4-2. The Knights' persistence finally paid off in the 86th minute when Robinson crossed the ball to find the foot of
Devyn O'Malley, who scored her first-career goal to seal the victory. Mount Saint Mary went on to defeat Kean Jersey City by a final score of 5-2.
