Mount Saint Mary looked to get its season started off on a high note against powerhouse Vassar College, who finished last season 16-4 atop the Liberty League. The Knights were seeking their first win over the Brewers since the 2015 season opener, as they managed to hold Vassar's high-powered offense at bay to open the game. The Brewers would strike first in the 15th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Mount would draw a foul just outside the box giving Grace Morra an opportunity to go to goal. Morra's shot was perfectly placed in the top left corner, but the Brewers keeper made a great save. A through ball found its way past the Knights' defense as Vassar extended their lead to 2-0 late in the half.

The Mount hoped to regroup at the half, but the Brewers offense continued to dominate to start the second half, scoring two goals in the first six minutes to take a 4-0 lead. The Knights continued to battle to the final whistle, as many freshmen were able to see playing time and get valuable minutes early on in their careers. Mount Saint Mary held the Brewers scoreless in the final 32 minutes of play, though Vassar would come out on top with a 5-0 win over the Mount.
