Baseball Bested in Doubleheader With Maritime

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College baseball team dropped both games of its doubleheader with Maritime.

Game 1
The Basics

Score: Mount Saint Mary College 0, Maritime 10
Records: Mount Saint Mary College (7-14, 2-5 Skyline) | Maritime (9-9, 7-0)

Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary took on Maritime College for yet another Skyline Conference doubleheader, with the Privateers coming into this one undefeated in conference play. The Knights did not get off to the start they were looking for, committing two errors in the 1st inning and giving up three runs. Aidan Marshall and Noah Anderson would both single in the bottom half of the inning, but would both be left stranded. Maritime added runs in each of the next three innings to take an 8-0 lead after the 4th inning.

The Knights were able to get multiple runners on early with no outs, but struggled to finish with runners in scoring position. Justin Stella hit a lead-off single in the bottom of the 5th, followed by a walk from Aidan Marshall. With two on and no outs yet again, the Knights just could not get the bats going. The Privateers scored two more runs in the 6th and 7th innings as they cruised to a 10-0 victory in game one.

Game 2
The Basics

Score: Mount Saint Mary College 1, Maritime 7
Records: Mount Saint Mary College (7-16, 2-6 Skyline) | Maritime (11-9, 8-0)

Rapid Recap
The Mount hoped to improve their play all around in game two, and did just that to start. Michael Pisseri got the start in game two, as the junior pitcher has been the ace for the Knights this season, leading the team in wins with a 4-1 record. He would go 1-2-3 in the top of the 1st, retiring the side with a strikeout. In the bottom half of the inning, Aidan Marshall hit a lead-off triple to get the team going. Stephen Volk singled to shallow right field for the RBI, scoring Marshall from third. Mount Saint Mary's lead would be short-lived as a passed ball in the 2nd inning tied things up 1-1. The Privateers scored another run in the following inning to take the lead. Aidan Marshall would draw a walk in the bottom of the 3rd, making his way all the way over to third base off wild pitches, but would be stopped there after a strikeout ended the inning.

Another error would cost the Knights in the 4th inning to make it 3-1 Maritime. The Mount Saint Mary seemed flat outside of the 1st inning, mustering just three hits total this game. The Privateers' offense ramped up in the 5th inning, scoring four runs to extend their lead to 7-1. Bruce Mistler was one of the lone bright spots for the Knights this game, tossing 3.1 hit- less innings and providing some good work out of the bullpen. Mount Saint Mary was unable to do much offensively in the final few innings, as they ultimately lost to Maritime 7-1.
