Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary College hit the road at Farmingdale State College, looking to build on its win streak, but the first quarter proved to be a competitive back-and-forth as the Knights battled early against the Rams. Mount Saint Mary got scoring from multiple players right away, with
Brianna Guglielmo getting the first bucket and
Maggie Trinkaus finding success attacking the rim.
Gabby Ziegenbalg continued her hot shooting streak, as the freshman knocked down 4 of her 5 three-point attempts. She continues to lead the Skyline in three-point shooting percentage in conference play at 41.4%, the only player to shoot above 40.0%. Down 11-4, the Knights ended the quarter on a 10-0 run to take the lead heading into the second quarter.
The second quarter saw the Rams keep things close, though Brianna Guglielmo would turn up, scoring 18 of her team-high 25 points in the first half. The Mount led by as much as 10 in the quarter, but Farmingdale continued to hang around. Angelina Donato and Reese Mayer provided constant playmaking, as the pair combined for 10 of the Knights' 20 assists this game. Mount Saint Mary had its best three-point shooting game, percentage-wise, as they hit on 7 of their 13 attempts, and they led 40-33 at the half.
The Rams cut their deficit to just 2 to open the third quarter, but back-to-back threes from sharpshooter Gabby Ziegenbalg, followed by a score from Sara Cashin, gave the Mount a 10-point lead. Cashin gave the Knights an offensive presence down low in the quarter. A three-pointer from Maggie Trinkaus gave the Mount a 55-44 lead, but Farmingdale completely flipped the script, forcing 3 Knights turnovers and scoring 8 unanswered to close out the last two minutes.
The fourth quarter belonged to Farmingdale as they pulled away down the stretch. Old momentum swings in the Knights' favor evaporated, and the Rams' ability to score in transition and on offensive rebounds helped extend their lead. Maggie Trinkaus' ability to stretch the floor kept the Mount in the game, tying things up 59-59 with less than 5 minutes to go. Turnovers hurt the Knights, as their 19 on the game resulted in 28 points for the Rams. Mount Saint Mary continued to fight until the final buzzer with effort on both ends, but Farmingdale held firm and came away with the 78-68 victory.
