NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team fell just short to Manhattanville University in their first match of the new year.

Mount Saint Mary got its new year underway against Manhattanville University at home for their second Skyline match of the season.
Matthew Walsh got the scoring started for the Knights with a trip to the free-throw line after being fouled on a three-point attempt.
Brenden Graham would knock down 1 of his 3 made three-pointers to bring the Mount to within two. The Knights had one of their best shooting games from beyond the arc, making 10 of their 23 attempts, which was good for 43.5%. After tying things up 14-14 on a
Daniel Herzner three, the game would stay close until late in the first half. The Knights found themselves down 32-23 with 2:51 left, but not for long.
Rob Geremino would help Mount Saint Mary end the half on a high note with two made threes in the closing minutes as Manhattanville led 34-31.
The Knights took the lead in the second half after a quick couple of buckets to make it 36-34. The game would stay close for the remainder of the second period, with neither squad leading by more than two possessions. The Mount would tie it up with 5:52 left after a converted and-one from
Rob Geremino. The Knights' leading scorer this game,
Justin Rivera, would begin to take over after back-to-back made threes to put them up 60-59. Although Mount Saint Mary had a strong shooting performance, they struggled at the free-throw line all game, shooting just 9-20 in both halves. The Valiants would take back the lead, but a made jumper from Rivera would make it 63-62 Manhattanville with 13 seconds remaining. After two made free throws from Manhattanville, they would take a smart foul with 4 seconds left to send the Knights to the line and ultimately end the game as the Valiants won 65-63.
