Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary looked to get back on track after losing its last two matches. To open the first set, the Knights struggled with their serve-receive game, which would haunt them throughout the match. The Mount would go down 12-3, with both of their kills coming from senior middle blocker
Brooke Lavelle, who led the team today in kills and blocks. Vassar went up and never looked back, taking a commanding 22-3 lead and winning set 25-6.
The Knights got off to a much needed better start to the second set, taking and early 4-3 lead. The Mount tried to hang in there, but a 6-0 run by Vassar gave them a solid 16-8 lead. They continued to fight, with senior setter
Vanessa Seymour providing back-to-back aces for a small glimmer of hope. The Brewers would ultimately close out and win the set 25-17.
Although they were down 2-0, Mount Saint Mary did not give up. Vassar led 12-6 to begin the set, but the Knights started to rally behind a few kills from
Ava DiScala and cut the Brewers lead to 15-13. The remainder of the set would go back and forth, with both teams trading small spurts of points. Just when you thought the Brewers had it, the Knights were right back into the set trailing just 23-22 after a kill from Lavelle. The Mount tried to play spoiler, but would fall just short 25-23 in the final set.
