Bell Takes Position at West Point as Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Athletic Director Shane Bell has accepted a position to return to Army West Point as the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director.

During his time at Mount Saint Mary, Bell has done an extraordinary job rebuilding the athletic department from the ground up. He has helped the Knights succeed in all areas—competitively, academically, and financially. In 2025, the Skyline Women's Basketball Championship trophy returned to Mount Saint Mary after the Knights defeated previously unbeaten Merchant Marine 81-76 in overtime. Student-athletes also excelled in the classroom, raising the department's average GPA to 3.25 during the 2024–25 academic year. A total of 122 student-athletes earned a place on the Skyline Conference Academic Honor Roll, with two receiving the prestigious Skyline Elite 19 Award.

"We wish Shane all the best in the next chapter of his professional career. We'll be forever grateful for the hard work, dedication, commitment and passion he brought to Mount Saint Mary and the Athletic Department," added Associate Athletic Director Samantha Howe.

Bell revitalized the Mount's summer sports camps, achieving a 250% increase in registrations compared to the previous year. Through enhanced fundraising and facilities rentals, Mount Saint Mary Athletics and its teams also generated significant revenue growth. Additionally, Bell played a leading role in expanding athletic recruitment, prioritizing the student-athlete experience and organizing numerous recruiting events for prospective students and their families.

"I am grateful for having the opportunity to learn and grow under Shane's leadership. He has done a great job challenging me to grow my knowledge of sports administration. His support in growing all our programs has been infectious and I look forward to the next
chapter in Mount athletics," said Assistant Athletic Director Mike Lowell.

We would like to thank Shane for everything he has done for Mount Saint Mary College and wish him the best at West Point!
