Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary was now back in Skyline Conference play as they headed to Old Westbury Saturday afternoon. The Knights are coming off a 2-1 victory over John Jay, looking to continue that momentum against the Panthers. The Mount came out aggressively from the opening kick with
Jack Hoffman getting a good look in the 9th minute. Just minutes later,
Quinn Tynan would find
Marco Mazzarelli for the first goal of the game as both the Knights' captains ended their scoring droughts. The Mount Saint Mary defense continued their domination, led by
Sam Bevevino,
Liam Hughes,
Ryan Kieser,
Dale Allison, and
Noah Horn in between the pipes. They have only allowed an average of 1.00 goals per game through 8 matches and held the Panthers to just 1 shot on goal in the first half. In the 41st minute,
Cam Welsh followed up on a rebound from a
Michael Hilas shot on goal to extend the Mount's lead to 2-0.
The Knights came out of the half confident, as they controlled the pace of play. In desperation mode, Old Westbury began to get more aggressive as they knew they were going to need to get more shots on target if they were to have any chance. The Panthers found more scoring chances later in the game, but were unable to get past
Noah Horn, who had 5 saves this match. Old Westbury was finally able to find a chink in the Knights' armor in the 89th minute, scoring to make it 2-1. It was ultimately too late for the Panthers, though, as Mount Saint Mary came away with the win in enemy territory.
