Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary hosted John Jay on Wednesday evening just before heading into Skyline Conference play this weekend. The Knights looked solid from the opening kickoff, as Liam Hughes nearly scored first for the Mount with a header off the left post. In the 27th minute, TJ Mark serviced a beautiful corner into the box that would find the head of Sam Bevevino off a pass from Marco Mazzarelli to give Mount Saint Mary a 1-0 lead. The Knights continued to dominate possession for the remainder of the half, as J.C. Gutierrez nearly extended their lead on a through ball attempt, but was stopped by the Bloodhounds' keeper.

The Mount opened up the second half with the same confident play, and it showed early on. Freshman Cam Welsh dashed past the John Jay defense, chipping the ball over their goalie off a pass from TJ Mark for a masterclass goal to put the Knights up 2-0. Minutes later, the Bloodhounds would take advantage of a Mount Saint Mary foul, as a loose ball off the free kick would find its way into the back of the net, making it 2-1. That goal seemed to ignite a flame for John Jay as they began to play more energetically. In the 70th minute, the Bloodhounds had another scoring chance, but Noah Horn would make a great play on the ball, keeping the Knights on top. This game came down to the wire as Mount Saint Mary was just able to hold off the comeback attempt from John Jay. Sam Bevevino got it done on both ends of the field for the Knights tonight, also making a key play by clearing the ball in the closing seconds to help the Mount win 2-1.
