Mount Saint Mary College opened up conference play this afternoon against Yeshiva University on the road. The Knights came into this one hoping for a much needed win, starting off hot with
Sofia Fredericks scoring first with a couple of kills to put them up 6-1. The Mount was on a roll to open up the first set as 6 different players recorded kills for the team. With a 12-7 lead, the Knights went on a tear, scoring 8 unanswered, including 3 kills from the kill leader this match
Nicolette Pirro. Mount Saint Mary handled the Maccabees in the first set with a 25-11 win.
The Knights continued to dominate into the second set, as senior setter
Vanessa Seymour had one her her best matches in a Mount uniform, leading the team in assists, digs, and aces. They never let Yeshiva get any sort of rhythm going, taking an 8-0 lead, then going on another big 9-1 run to close out the set 25-8.
Mount Saint Mary once again took an early 7-2, as the Maccabees tried to play spoiler on the Knights attempt to sweep. Everyone on the Mount saw action with 13 different point scorers, showing the team's depth and versatility. Yeshiva kept the third set closer than the first two, only trailing 15-11 midway through the set. The Knight's would ramp things back up towards the end of the set taking a 23-14 lead, right before closing out the set 25-18 with a kill by
Brooke Lavelle, who had 3 of the teams last 4 points.
