Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary College looked to build off its win on Sunday over Yeshiva against Bard College, whom the Knights already saw this year in a preseason scrimmage.
Jonaiya Williams got the team going with a kill and an ace, as the Mount looked solid from the get-go. They jumped out to an early lead with
Julianna Simone and
Brooke Lavelle shining, helping the Knights go up 14-6. Simone led the way with a career-high 8 aces, and Lavelle had a team-high 3 blocks. The Mount dominated, closing out the set on a 7-0 run, including 4 straight aces from Simone.
Bard jumped out with a slight early lead, but an 8-0 run, thanks to some great services from freshman
Kaitlin Dillon, put the Knights ahead 11-6. The Raptors kept the set close until about midway through, when
Ava DiScala sparked a 6-1 run for Mount Saint Mary off assists from
Vanessa Seymour. Bard chipped away at the Knights' lead, cutting their deficit to just 2 points late in the set, making it 23-21, but the Mount was able to take the second set 25-22.
The start of the third set was just as close as the end of the second, with the Knights holding a small lead and the Raptors right on their heels. Bard eventually took the lead from Mount Saint Mary in hopes of staying alive and forcing a fourth set. Down 20-18, the Knights stayed composed with
Julianna Simone absolutely taking over in the clutch. Simone scored 4 of their next 5 points, giving them a 23-20 lead, as the Mount would win the third set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
