Rapid Recap
The Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team lost against Vassar College 4-0 on Sunday afternoon, continuing their difficult start to the season. The Knights were unable to sustain possession and generate significant opportunities in the attacking third, as they once again struggled to generate offense and repel a high-pressing opponent. Vassar struck first and continued to dominate in the first half. Freshman goalkeeper
Julianna Ewashko made her first start for the Knights and put forth a valiant performance in goal. She made seven saves on fifteen shots faced while under tremendous pressure from Vassar's strong attack. The Knights' defense was always on its heels as the Brewers controlled the ball, but the rookie goalie persevered and showed potential in a challenging start. Vassar never looked back after taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Mount Saint Mary came out strong in the second half, putting multiple shots on goal and applying brief spells of offense. Still, clear scoring opportunities remained hard to come by as Vassar's defense stayed compact and composed. The Knights had regained their focus and were working to reduce the gap with better organization and poise. Despite the shift in momentum, the Knights couldn't find the back of the net. Vassar took advantage of prolonged possession and ongoing pressure in the final third to add two more goals in the second half to complete the 4-0 victory. Mount Saint Mary opens up conference play against Yeshiva University on Tuesday night and will be eager to earn their first win of the season.
