Rapid Recap
Mount Saint Mary men's lacrosse celebrated their 7 seniors this afternoon on Senior Day against the University of Mount Saint Vincent:
Christopher Blatz,
Tim Doyle,
Chris Murolo,
Joe Keating,
Larry Frank,
Richard Algarin, and
Bobby DeSantis.
Bobby DeSantis won the opening draw, which he has done so well for the Knights all season long, as he went 11-19 on faceoffs this game with 9 ground balls. After a holding penalty on the Dolphins,
Larry Frank would get the scoring with a man-up goal for his first goal of the game. It was a slow start for both teams' offenses, but Mount Saint Vincent would tie the game up with only a few seconds on the clock to round out the first quarter.
Larry Frank began to heat up in the second quarter with 2 goals in the first minute and a half as he had the best game of his career this afternoon.
Tim Doyle assisted Frank on his third goal as all the Knights seniors put in extra work this game. UMSV responded with a goal of their own, but so did Frank, scoring his fourth goal of the game with an assist from
Robby Maurer to put the Mount up 4-2. The Knights notched their fifth goal of the game a couple minutes later and it was scored by who else but
Larry Frank. Senior midfielder
Joe Keating got in on the action to extend Mount Saint Mary's lead as he and Frank combined for all of the teams' goals this game.
The Knights led 6-3 to start the second half, and with an extra-man opportunity, Keating would find Frank to extend their lead. Like the flip of a switch, the Dolphins found some hope after their fourth goal of the game and began to rally. The Knights spent the majority of the remaining half of the third quarter playing defense, as Mount Saint Vincent tied the game 7-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
Joe Keating and
Larry Frank would settle the team down as Keating found Frank for his career-high 7th goal of the game. They would both then score unassisted goals to put the Mount up 10-7 with 6:36 remaining. The game was far from over as Mount Saint Vincent squeaked in a couple of late goals to make it a one-score game with just over 2 minutes left. The Knights' defense came up clutch in the closing moments as
Christopher Blatz drew a penalty and
Kenny Leen secured a ground ball off a UMSV miss to help secure a 10-9 win over the Dolphins.
